Coating

Silica sol is one of the auxiliary film-forming substances used in coatings—it is a colloidal solution of inorganic polymeric polysilicic acid, with water as its dispersing medium. The silica particles in the sol typically exist as spherical shapes, either individually or aggregated into larger clusters, enabling them to adhere strongly to both the substrate and the surface of filler particles. As the silica sol loses moisture, monomeric silicic acid gradually polymerizes into high-molecular-weight silicate gel. With further evaporation of water, the colloid molecules continue to grow in size, eventually forming a dense, hard-SiO-O-SiO- coating film. This type of coating exhibits significantly superior water resistance and heat tolerance compared to organic coatings. Additionally, the resulting film is highly compact and rigid, with no tendency to generate static electricity, making it difficult for airborne dust particles to adhere to its surface.
